Terms of Service
Effective: 22 May 2026
These Terms govern your use of glyphmd, a desktop Markdown application produced by Bärtschi Software, Lochmattweg 45, CH-5033 Buchs, Switzerland (“we”, “us”). By purchasing a license, starting the free trial, or installing the application, you agree to these Terms.
1. License
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use glyphmd on up to three (3) personal devices you control. The license covers the version you purchased and all updates within the same major version (e.g. 1.x). The license is perpetual: there is no recurring fee and no scheduled deactivation.
You may move your license between your own devices at any time. Each license is bound to a single end user. To activate the app for additional users, additional licenses are required.
2. Restrictions
You agree not to:
- resell, sublicense, rent, lease, or distribute the application or your license key;
- remove or alter copyright notices, license enforcement code, or signing metadata;
- attempt to defeat license activation, reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application except to the extent permitted by mandatory law;
- use the application to develop a competing product, or in a way that violates applicable law.
3. Free Trial
glyphmd offers a free trial of approximately thirty (30) days, activated from within the application. The trial requires no payment information and creates no automatic charge. When the trial expires, the application will prompt you to enter a purchased license key to continue.
4. Purchase and Payment
Purchases are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited (“Paddle”), which acts as the merchant of record for glyphmd. Paddle is responsible for collecting payment, calculating and remitting applicable sales tax / VAT, and issuing invoices. Paddle’s Buyer Terms apply to the transaction itself.
After your purchase, Paddle will deliver a license key to the email address you provided at checkout. Keep this key safe — it is what you enter into the application to activate it.
5. Refunds
You may request a refund within 30 days of purchase, for any reason, by contacting us. Full details and the request procedure are described in our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
6. Updates
Updates within the same major version are provided at no additional cost and are signed with a key under our control. The application verifies update signatures before installing. We may release a future major version (e.g. 2.x) that requires a separate purchase; if we do, your existing license remains valid for the version it was sold for.
7. Third-Party Services
glyphmd is local-first and operates without our servers for ordinary editing tasks. Two integrations may, at your option, contact third parties:
- AI assistance — you may configure the application to talk to Ollama on your own machine (no third party involved) or to provide your own API key for an external AI provider (e.g. Anthropic or OpenAI). When you provide a key, the prompts and responses travel directly between your device and the provider you chose; we never see that content. Your use of an external provider is governed by that provider’s own terms. AI-generated output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. We make no warranty as to the correctness or fitness of AI output for any purpose, and you are responsible for reviewing AI-generated content before relying on or publishing it.
- License activation — when you activate or revalidate a license, the application contacts our licensing service at
licensing.tightblocks.com. See the Privacy Policy for details.
8. Warranty Disclaimer
glyphmd is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. We do not warrant that the application will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every system, hardware, or software configuration, or that it will integrate without conflict with other software you run alongside it.
glyphmd is an editing tool, not a backup or archival service. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of any files you create, edit, or store with glyphmd. We strongly recommend keeping your Markdown vault under version control or in a backed-up location.
Mandatory consumer-protection rights under Swiss or EU law are not affected by this disclaimer.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability for any and all claims arising out of or in connection with these Terms, your purchase of a license, or your use of (or inability to use) glyphmd is limited to the amount you paid for the license in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. This cap applies even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages of any kind, including but not limited to:
- loss, corruption, or unauthorised disclosure of files, notes, or other content;
- loss of profit, revenue, savings, business opportunity, or goodwill;
- cost of substitute software or services;
- damage to or instability of your operating system, other applications, or hardware caused by the interaction of glyphmd with your environment;
- actions taken or decisions made in reliance on AI-generated output.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, in particular liability for gross negligence or intentional misconduct (Art. 100 Abs. 1 of the Swiss Code of Obligations), liability for personal injury, or any other liability under mandatory consumer-protection law.
10. Privacy
Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.
11. Term and Termination
These Terms apply for as long as your license is valid. You may stop using glyphmd at any time. We may terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms (for example, by chargeback fraud or by attempting to defeat activation) and fail to remedy the breach within a reasonable period after we notify you.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the product, the law, or our business. The current version is always available at this URL with the effective date shown above. For material changes that adversely affect your rights, we will notify license holders by email to the address used at purchase before the change takes effect.
13. Governing Law and Venue
These Terms are governed by the substantive law of Switzerland, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). The exclusive place of jurisdiction is Aarau, Kanton Aargau, Switzerland, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection venue rules that grant consumers the right to sue or be sued at their place of residence.
