What it is, in five points
- Fast
Under 250 ms cold start on an M1 Mac, sub-20 MB installer, sub-80 MB idle RAM with one file open. Tauri 2 + Rust on the backend, no Electron tax.
- Local-first
Files stay on disk as plain Markdown. No cloud sync, no account, no telemetry, no crash reporting that phones home. License activates once over HTTPS and then works fully offline.
- Typora-class WYSIWYG
Inline-rendered Markdown — bold, italic, headings, lists, tables, math, Mermaid — without a mode switch. Focus Mode dims everything but the active paragraph; Typewriter Scrolling keeps the active line vertically centred.
- Cursor-style AI
Vault-aware chat with @-mentions for cross-file context, inline ghost-text completion as you type, and an apply-as-edits diff preview. Bring your own key (Anthropic or OpenAI, including OpenAI-compatible endpoints) or run locally with Ollama — your content never touches a glyphmd server.
- Native distribution
Signed and notarised .dmg for Intel + Apple Silicon Macs, .msi and .nsis for Windows, .deb and AppImage for Linux. Cryptographically signed in-app updater pulls from an object-storage bucket — no app-store dependency.
Screenshots
High-resolution screenshots and a short demo video are available on request via press@glyphmd.com. The download manifest at latest.json lists every binary with its SHA-256 — use those if you want to verify what you’re running.
Comparison anchors (writers want to know)
The honest framing: glyphmd sits between Typora (writing-grade WYSIWYG, no vault tooling, no AI) and Obsidian (vault tooling, Markdown-source-only editor, plugin-driven AI). It picks up Typora’s inline-rendering ergonomics, Obsidian’s vault-awareness, and adds first-class AI without the plugin install dance. It does not aim to replace either for the workflows where they shine — calendar-based PKM (Obsidian) or pure long-form prose (iA Writer).
